"Don't even try to live without sin, instead, aim to know Him more". I heard a preacher say those words recently and knew they were words to ponder. You might say " wait a sec, do you mean I should live with sin as a believer and its ok like that? No. Let me explain.
There had been times I tried to stop sin. I knew God's wrath will come on those who do wrong- who do apart from the Law. And I have always aimed to stay from them, which sometimes I am unable to avoid.
Then I discovered there are times I have lived on without sin, not even its consciousness. And whenever the thought comes that 'hey, I have been without sin for this long' and I begin to think of how to keep staying away with my effort, I fail and fall back to sin again.
Meaning, the more I try by my effort to do what is right, the more I fail. And the more I keep away the consciousness of sin and fix my gaze on Jesus to know Him more and fellowship, the more I live completely without the action of sin.
One may say "I can live without sin?" Yes! You can - not by your effort and desire- but by a continual fellowship and longing to know Him more. This way, His image- which is perfect will rub on you and you'll live like Him- without sin.
Therefore, let your desire be to know Him, then sin will be done with in your life.
